Position Summary
Operates heavy equipment such as a backhoe/loader, or excavator, or other light automotive equipment such as a single-axle flatbed, or crew truck.
Reporting Relationships
Reports to Water or Wastewater Foreman and Supervisor
Essential Functions
- In addition to the safe and efficient operation of equipment, employee frequently participates in maintenance, repair, and minor construction activities within the Water Distribution and Sewer Collection Division.
- Routine or repetitive assignments are performed under general supervision. Perform minor maintenance, repairs, and service assigned equipment.
- Special assignments are carried out under the close supervision of a supervisor.
- Performs other related duties assigned by the Water/Sewer Supervisor.
External Relationships
- Customers: Provides information and assistance when required.
- Civic and government leaders: Cooperates when required.
- Industry professionals: Cooperates when required.
- Law enforcement: Cooperates when required.
- General public: Maintains good relations in all contacts with the public.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily outdoors in all types of weather. Employees may be subject to noise, dust, and other conditions encountered at construction sites.

Job Knowledge:

Education and Experience:
Any combination of experience and education that would likely produce qualifying knowledge and ability. A typical combination is:
Education:
High school diploma or GED certificate
And
Experience:
Ability to dig, lift, use tools, and operate machinery. Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions for the operation and maintenance of assigned equipment.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Mississippi. Must have a cellphone. Valid CDL (Class D) driver’s license. Must have a cellphone.
