CPU Celebrates National Lineman Appreciation Day

Customers encouraged to thank those making Clarksdale shine

National Lineman Appreciation Day is the perfect time to express appreciation for the great men and women who work around the clock to keep the lights on, and Clarksdale Public Utilities is doing just that.

On April 18, the utility will join others around the country in recognizing the commitment to customers and dedication to safety that line workers exhibit every day. Customers, neighbors and friends are encouraged to participate as well by sharing messages of support using the #thankalineman hashtag on their favorite social media channels or on CPU’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Recognized as one of the most dangerous jobs in the United States, line workers often face challenging conditions in the field especially following severe weather like tornadoes, hurricanes and ice storms. In fact, they average 16-hour workdays during natural disasters often away from their own homes and families.

On National Lineman Appreciation Day, CPU line workers will be doing what they do best — delivering safe, reliable and cost-effective power to customers.

“There are many reasons to thank linemen for the services they provide to our customers and our community,” said CPU General Manager Curtis D. Boschert. “Linemen are the backbone of the utility industry, and we are fortunate to have such a talented and experienced team of linemen at Clarksdale Public Utilities.”

In addition to social media, here are a few other ways you can show your appreciation:

  • Be friendly — line workers are our family, friends and neighbors. They’re part of our community and something as simple as a friendly wave or smile really makes a difference.
  • Be understanding — line workers are here to help, not harm. No matter how frustrating it may seem, particularly if work has to be done down the line before they can safely restore your power, they’re always working in your best interest.
  • Be cautious and courteous — safety is always the top priority for employees and customers alike. When you see them on the job, stay clear of the work zone and don’t engage in conversation so everyone stays focused and goes home to the ones they love.
“CPU cares about Clarksdale, and our employees put those words into action each and every day,” said Boschert. “It’s a motto we believe in, but also one we know we wouldn’t be able to live by if not for our highly skilled workforce. We thank them for all that they do, storms or no storms, 365 days a year.”
