Safety, service were our top priorities after violent June storm

On the night of June 25, one of the most destructive storms in recent history left parts of Clarksdale Public Utilities’ electrical system in shambles, resulting in thousands of customer outages.

We quickly found that the storm had downed many poles and that three of our four substations were offline, leaving most all the city in darkness. Our employees immediately developed a plan to restore power safely and efficiently.

Safety is always foremost for CPU employees, who prepare year-round to respond to emergencies and keep our system in top operating condition. They wasted no time removing debris, installing new poles, lines and equipment.

Within three days, they had restored service for most customers affected by the storm. They continue repairing and rebuilding parts of the system that sustained more serious damage.

We sincerely appreciate our customers for their patience and understanding during this challenging event. We take pride in being responsible stewards of Clarksdale’s utility systems, and we will continue working to improve our performance and earn their trust every day.

Special thanks to our crews for working safely throughout the restoration effort. Staying prepared for the expected—and the unexpected—is a way of life for linemen. We appreciate their service and dedication.

Sincerely,

Curtis D. Boschert
General Manager
