With long-range forecasts predicting a hotter-than-average summer, Clarksdale Public Utilities is launching its Simple Steps energy-saving program early to give customers more time to prepare and manage cooling costs before high temperatures arrive.
Beginning in May, the National Weather Service predicts elevated chances of above-normal temperatures across Mississippi, driven by persistent warming trends and lingering atmospheric patterns. These forecasts follow a record-breaking 2024, when the Magnolia State saw some of its highest-ever temperatures and an uptick in energy consumption to match.
“We are urging customers to take proactive steps now to lower energy use and costs later, as rising temperatures push demand ever higher,” said Curtis D. Boschert, CPU general manager. “By working together, everyone can play a role in keeping energy bills manageable, reducing strain on the grid and making sure our community stays comfortable.”
Considering that a typical family spends nearly $2,000 annually on home energy bills, it literally pays to improve efficiency. Get a head start on maximizing cost savings now with these tips:
“We appreciate our customers' commitment to energy efficiency,” said Boschert. “A few simple steps now can make a big difference in enegy savings while supporting of a reliable power supply for our entire community during extreme weather.”
