Clarksdale Public Utilities Can Help Keep Your Budget Resolutions on Track

Now is a good time to make a few small changes as you work toward your goals

It seems like just yesterday we were ringing in the new year and looking forward to fresh starts, getting organized and taking charge of our budgets. With 2023 in full swing, now is a good time to check those resolutions, reevaluate and keep working toward what you want to accomplish.

If you’ve veered off track with your household expenses, making a few small changes can help you rein them in. Clarksdale Public Utilities offers a variety of payment options that match your financial preferences, as well as ways to help lower your utility expenses and keep more money in your wallet.

“We all have good intentions about sticking to our goals when we flip the calendar or open a brand-new planner, but sometimes life just gets in the way,” said Curtis D. Boschert, CPU general manager. “That’s why we want to make it as easy and convenient as possible for customers to do business with us by offering more control over utility accounts, billing cycles and household budgets.”

If you haven’t already signed up for CPU’s PowerLine customer portal or downloaded the free mobile app, take a few minutes to do so. These secure, online options allow 24/7 access to your utility account so you can check balances, pay bills and sign up for alerts. You also can see your account activity in greater detail along with helpful graphs showing billing and usage history.

While you’re at it, take advantage of CPU’s convenient payment options:

  • Levelized Billing — Ideal for customers on fixed budgets, this option provides for more consistent, predictable bills throughout the year. CPU averages the past 12 months of your energy usage, so you pay roughly the same amount each month and eliminate the spikes extreme summer or winter temperatures can bring.
  • Pick A Due Date — CPU also offers the choice of picking from five different due dates during the month to receive your utility bill. This allows you to time your bills with the arrival of paychecks and other income sources, providing peace of mind that you will have funds on hand when payments are due.
  • Deferred Contract — Should you need to have your service reconnected due to an unpaid bill, CPU will allow you to pay half of what is owed now and pay the rest via six- to nine-month installments to your current bill. If you have questions, you may visit our office at 416 Third Street from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or call us 662-627-8499.

Further assistance is available for qualified customers through the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. For more information or to apply, visit the Mississippi Department of Human Services website or contact Coahoma Opportunities at 662-624-4887.

What’s more, CPU encourages you to take simple steps to be more energy efficient so you can save money year-round.
